What it is

The jaw is never just the jaw

Jaw pain, clicking, clenching and headaches rarely live in the jaw alone. The temporomandibular joint is tied to your neck, your posture, your breathing and your stress — so treating only the jaw often misses why it keeps flaring. I work with the whole picture, gently, to give you lasting relief.

As a manual osteopath, I treat the jaw the way I treat the rest of the body: as part of a connected system.

Is this you?

When jaw therapy helps most

Clicking or lockingA jaw that pops, catches or feels stuck when you open wide.
Clenching & grindingEspecially at night — waking with a tight, tired jaw.
Headaches & facial painTension headaches, ache around the temples, ears or cheeks.
Stress that lives in the jawA jaw that tightens the moment life gets heavy.
What to expect

Gentle, whole-picture care

  1. We look wider. I assess the jaw alongside your neck, posture and breathing — where the tension really starts.
  2. Hands-on release. Gentle external work, and where appropriate and with your consent, intra-oral techniques.
  3. Calming the system. Breathing and relaxation tools, because a jaw clenches when the nervous system can’t settle.
  4. Tools for home. Simple strategies to ease clenching between sessions and protect the progress we make.
Why this approach

Where the relief lasts

Treating the jaw in isolation is why so many people feel better for a day and then tighten right back up. By working with the neck, posture and nervous system together, the relief has a reason to hold. It’s gentle, trauma-informed, and paced entirely to your comfort.

Care is offered at the clinic in North Vancouver, with mobile visits across the North Shore.

Common questions

What is TMJ / TMD?

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint — the hinge of your jaw. TMD (temporomandibular dysfunction) is the umbrella term for pain and problems in that joint and surrounding muscles, including clicking, clenching, limited opening and facial pain.

Can manual osteopathy really help jaw pain?

Yes. Because the jaw is connected to the neck, posture, breathing and the nervous system, gentle hands-on work that addresses the whole picture — not just the joint — can ease tension, clicking and the headaches that come with it.

Do you do intra-oral work?

Where it’s appropriate and only with your consent, yes — gentle intra-oral techniques can release muscles that can’t be reached from outside. Much can also be achieved with external work, and you’re always in control of what feels comfortable.

Is jaw tension connected to my headaches and neck pain?

Very often, yes. The jaw, neck and head share muscles and nerves, so tension in one frequently shows up in the others. Treating them together is usually what brings lasting relief.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies with how long the pattern has been there and how much stress and clenching is involved. Saba builds an honest plan with you and aims for change you can feel early on.
